As a TD in June 2016, Lisa Chambers was among the 114 TDs who voted against Deputy Maureen O’Sullivan’s bill which sought to ban cruel hare coursing.
In 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, voted in favour of the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations which granted €80 million/€80 million/€84 million/€84 million of taxpayers’ money to horse and greyhound racing.
In November 2020, Senator Chambers voted in favour of the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2020 which granted another €96 million of taxpayers’ money to horse and greyhound racing for 2021, i.e. €76.8 for horse racing and €19.2 million for greyhound racing.
In Seanad Eireann on 6th November 2020, Senator Lisa Chambers pushed for pheasant shooting to be exempted from COVID19 Level 5 restrictions. She stated: “I have also had representations on hare coursing and the hunting season as well. I too have been contacted by many gun clubs in my constituency of Mayo. The gun [shooting] season was due to start on 1 November for pheasants. It had already been in operation for other game in September and they were shooting. I think it is a reasonable ask on behalf of gun clubs that, within the 5 km rule, that you stay within 5km and you go on your own, that you should be able to participate in shooting.”
