Popular journalist and broadcaster Aisling O’Loughlin has joined calls on the government to ban cruel hare coursing.

Writing in her Irish Mail on Sunday and columns last month, Aisling stated: “Hare coursing: I’m with Pammie on this. Ban it, Taoiseach!”

The founder of and former TV3 news and entertainment presenter, was referring to a recent appeal from Pamela Anderson to Taoiseach Micheal Martin to ban the “reckless and cruel” bloodsport.

“This bloodsport is at odds with the warmth and goodwill that people around the world know and love Ireland for,” the Baywatch actor told the Taoiseach in December. “It’s time—past time—that Ireland consigned hare coursing to the history books, where it belongs.”

Pamela added: “The novel coronavirus has taught us the devastating consequences of messing with wildlife and your government can heed that lesson by banning this so-called ‘sport’ in which gentle, sensitive hares—wild animals—are torn from their natural homes so that they can be chased by hounds for someone’s twisted idea of amusement.”

Thank you to Aisling O’Loughlin for joining a growing list of writers, actors, directors and musicians urging the government to ban hare coursing – a blood sport which a majority of Irish citizens want stopped. A RED C opinion poll carried out in September 2019 found that 77% want the government to ban coursing, while only 9% want coursing to continue.

Urge Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tanaiste Leo Varadkar to respect the wishes of the majority and ban hare coursing and all bloodsports.
