Fox hunting and other “field sports” (i.e. bloodsports) face “a very uncertain and challenging future” in Ireland, the Irish Field has reported.

The quote from the chairman of the Irish Masters of Foxhounds Association was included in a report last month, which pointed to “the significant financial impact of the Covid lockdown on hunt clubs” and “the Green Party, opposed to field sports, in government” as threats to hunting.

The vast majority of Irish citizens want barbaric foxhunting to have NO FUTURE here. A RED C opinion poll, commissioned by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, shows that a 77% majority agree that the government should ban foxhunting. The poll found that just 12 per cent disagree with a ban.

Fox hunting is one of Ireland’s worst forms of cruelty to animals. It involves releasing a pack of hounds to chase a fox to exhaustion. When caught by the hounds, foxes are disembowelled and torn apart to the delight of the hunters on horseback. Foxes who attempt to escape underground are cornered and attacked by hunt terriers while members of the hunt dig down into the earth, pull out the terrified and injured foxes and brutally kill them.

This shameful activity should have no place in modern Ireland. A ban is long overdue.

ACTION ALERT

Foxes should be protected, not persecuted. Urge politicians to respect the wishes of the majority and ban foxhunting now.

Contact the leaders of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, Sinn Fein, Labour Party and the Green Party to tell them that you want fox hunting and all bloodsports banned.
