Greyhound suffers horrendous fall at Mullingar track

A 17-month-old greyhound, being used in racing for the first time, suffered an horrendous fall at Mullingar track on Monday (23 November 2020).

The greyhound, named Ripple Affect “did not finish” the race (suggesting an injury was sustained).

Mullingar track is one of the worst in Ireland for dog injuries and deaths. Sickening Greyhound Racing Ireland (Irish Greyhound Board) statistics show that over the past six years alone, 255 greyhounds suffered injuries there and 69 were killed by a track vet.

Among the injuries suffered by greyhounds at Mullingar stadium are “SEVERED SPINE” and fractured hock bones. In December 2019, a greyhound died at the end of a race after falling and suffering a broken neck.

STOP THE STATE FUNDING FOR GREYHOUND RACING

Another €19.2 million of scarce public funds has been approved for greyhound racing for 2021. Since 2001, greyhound racing has received more than a quarter of a billion euros of taxpayers’ money. Please contact your local TDs and urge them to oppose this funding.
