The views of 2019 Local Election Candidates (Louth) in relation to animal cruelty issues. Please support compassionate candidates and reject those who defend animal cruelty.

Cllr Kevin Callan (Independent, Louth County Council, Drogheda)
At a meeting of Drogheda Borough Council in 2012, Cllr Callan proposed a motion to ban wild animal-act circuses from using public borough land.

Sean Connolly (Green Party, Ardee)
“Myself and my fellow Green Party LE Candidates are completely in favour of a ban on blood sports such as fox hunting, hare coursing, fur farms and other forms of animal cruelty such as the snaring of badgers” (Tweet, 20 May 2019).

Cllr Maria Doyle (Fine Gael, Louth County Council, Dundalk)
“I am most certainly against blood sports.” from an email to ICABS, June 2015.

Finnan McCoy (Fine Gael, Louth County Council, Ardee)
In 2007, Finnan McCoy spoke about cruel hare coursing in favourable terms, saying coursing clubs show care to the hares…”Were people to take as much care on the roads as was shown to the hares used at coursing club events, the annual road toll would be a lot lower, Ardee Town Commissioners Chairman Finnan McCoy told the recent monthly meeting. ‘There were 64 people killed on the roads in Louth last year, but there weren’t 64 hares killed in coursing,’ he said. The Chairman was commenting on Cmmr. Leonard Hatrick’s statement that he was outraged by the wilful destruction of young hares throughout the Ardee district and county…Chairman Finnan McCoy was anxious to make a distinction between the coursing clubs where the hares were ‘given injections and have their nails cut’ and unofficial meets where whippet dogs are used and the hares are given no chance.” from Drogheda Independent, June 2007.
