A “Ban Fox Hunts” banner was spotted this week on display over the N17 in County Galway.

Photos of the banner were posted on the Facebook page of Galway Hunt Saboteurs who commented in a statement: “When will this outdated bloodsport be banned? Can you also believe foxes are not protected by law here? Which means that cubbing season here is legal, same with digging out. These animals are in constant threat Is this what we want? Our beautiful land destroyed with the blood of the innocent? Join the fight for wildlife.” https://www.facebook.com/GalwayHuntSaboteurs/posts/1911497185824246?notif_id=1538759826312938

Cubbing, or cub hunting, involves hunters surrounding a fox covert and goading their dogs into attacking the defenceless cubs who try to escape. This brutal practice is aimed at introducing inexperienced hounds to the taste of fox blood – the doomed cubs are mauled, bitten and pulled apart by the dogs. For more information, see https://www.facebook.com/banbloodsports/posts/1851478824967667

During the foxhunting season, foxes are disturbed from their habitats, chased to exhaustion and when caught, they are torn apart by the pack. Foxes who desperately try to find refuge below ground are attacked by hunt terriers, dug out and brutally killed.

A ban on this shameful bloodsport which causes so much suffering and death is long overdue in Ireland. Please join local groups around the country in protesting against hunts and respond to the action alert below.

Write to your TDs at: Dail Eireann, Leinster House, Kildare Street, Dublin 2. Tel: 01-618 3000 or 1890 337 889. Please also arrange a meeting with your TDs at their local clinics.

Keep hunters off your land

If you are a landowner, make your land off-limits to hunters. Find out more about how to do this on our Farmers/Landowners Page – http://www.banbloodsports.com/farmers.htm Encourage all land-owning friends and family members in the countryside to show compassion and make their land a haven for wildlife. If hunters are denied access to land, the wildlife will be spared the suffering of cubhunting and foxhunting.
