Shocking new video: Hare hit hard at Limerick coursing

1 Mar

Shocking new footage captures the moment a hare is hit hard by dogs during the cruel Irish Cup coursing event at Limerick Racecourse last weekend.

In the sickening video, sent to the Irish Council Against Blood Sports by a coursing spectator, a merciless mob can be heard cheering as the greyhounds chase and catch the hare. The hare is hit so hard, he is sent tumbling head over heels three times.

The fate of this unfortunate hare is unknown but it is likely the creature suffered life-threatening internal injuries from the force of the impact.

Every coursing season, hares sustain painful injuries and die on coursing fields around Ireland. Hares who survive the ordeal are at risk of later dying from stress-related captury myopathy.

Shame on the Irish Government for allowing this barbaric bloodsport to continue and shame on Limerick Racecourse for hosting it.

This footage from Limerick Racecourse is the latest evidence of coursing cruelty. Earlier in the season, video footage filmed by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports exposed the suffering of hares. We filmed horrific scenes of hares being hit, battered and mauled into the ground. Click on links below to view the footage.

A ban on hare coursing is long overdue. Please join us today as we renew our appeal to the Irish Government to put in place a coursing ban and give permanent protection to hares.
